Every diver knows that underwater there are many surprises and unusual sights waiting for you. Especially the exploration of wrecks can surprise with interesting discoveries. However, sometimes the wreck itself is a very unusual sight. Like, for example, seeing a brand new sunken motorboat during a dive.

A very unusual sight awaits divers visiting the waters of Lake Michigan, specifically Grand Traverse Bay. At the bottom of the reservoir, at a depth of 76 meters, lies the wreck of a gleaming white motor yacht. This is quite a change from the rusting metal steamers and wooden schooners for which the Great Lakes are famous.

The motorboat ended up at the bottom of the lake following an incident on Friday, June 19. At around 2.30pm, emergency services received a report that the 9m vessel and its crew were in trouble. The motorboat was taking on water and the situation was becoming increasingly dangerous. A lifeboat and helicopter were sent to the scene.

The US Coast Guard quickly located the vessel and rescued its 10-person crew. Shortly after the last person left the struggling motorboat, it quickly began to take on water and went down moments later.

At the moment, the vessel lies at a depth of 76 metres, and we must admit that it is a very peculiar sight. After all, not in every body of water can you see the wreck of a luxury motorboat…
