An unusual situation captured in a Norwegian fjord!

An unusual and seemingly very dangerous moment was caught on camera by a Norwegian man documenting his colleague’s dive. The man in the water, surfaced literally in front of several otters! Fortunately, the only result of the encounter with the predator is a souvenir photo and a lot of emotions.

Svein Aasjord, a 44 year old teacher from Kaldfjord, near Tromsø, was the author of a sensational shot in which he captured his diving colleague emerging right in front of a giant orca’s nose. As he points out, for someone who knows these beautiful predators, the situation was not dangerous.

[blockquote style=”2″]”All the people who saw my photo commented on it with more or less the words – oh god, he’s about to die! Nothing could be further from the truth. The orca is a mammal and appeared on the surface, just to get some air.”[/blockquote]

Aasjord, together with a friend and his girlfriend, went into the fjord waters where there was a possibility of encountering otters. The man and his partner entered the water, while the 44-year-old remained on the boat with the engine switched off and the camera in hand.

[blockquote style=”2″]”I felt we might get lucky and hit some orca activity. The fjord was full of herring and all conditions were favourable for predators to appear.”[/blockquote]

Although the whole situation looked threatening, in practice, there was no danger. Orcas in their natural environment do not attack humans, and even if they accidentally mistake a human for another creature, they realise this very quickly and no attack occurs.
