A record attempt in freshwater diving with variable weight – VWT – was carried out in one of Mexico’s cenotes on the Yucatan Peninsula. By diving to a depth of 94m, Lemus broke the previous record of 82m, which… he had set the day before.
The record breaking was organised with the participation of a number of local and national bodies, as part of a wider campaign to encourage more physical activity and environmentally friendly tourism.

It should also be noted that Alejandro Lemus is the first freediver from Mexico to set a world record, which makes his achievement also symbolic for the entire freediving community in that country. The athlete plans to try and break two more world records in the coming days.
