A group of 182 divers have set a new Guinness World Diving Record. They formed the longest human chain in the waters off the coast of Thailand. The event was organised as part of a meeting held on Koh Tao – the Chrysalis Entrepreneur Forum. The chain created by the divers had a total length of 140 metres!

The event was jointly planned by the forum organiser, the Absolute Scuba group from India. It was conducted on 27 December 2016 at the Coral Grand Resort, Sairee Beach, Koh Tao.

Interestingly, 30 non-swimmers, several diving rookies and a full cross-section of the diving community from 8 to 58 years took part in the record breaking. All had been properly prepared and had undergone training. In total, the group consisted of more than 200 people.

Despite preparations, the first attempt scheduled for 26 December failed. Not discouraged by the failure, the participants made the necessary adjustments and attacked the record the next day. This time everything went according to plan and a new Guinness World Record became a reality.

The previous record belonged to the Italian diving group RAID Italia, who managed to collect and reunite 173 people underwater in early 2016. The event took place in the waters surrounding the famous island of Elba. Both a brief summary and video footage can be found in one of our previous posts.
