3City Diving Day - mini interview and some information

Yesterday we informed you about the upcoming 3City Diving Day. Today you have the opportunity to learn more about the event and the motivation of the organizers. During the interview with us, one of the organizers Rafał Dadej answered a few questions.

Why this type of event? Where did the idea come from?

The idea was probably born out of necessity… I dive a lot and many friends asked me if diving is difficult, what you need to do to dive and what it is like underwater. A lot of interest was also aroused by films and photos from dives, which I show in various places. Hence, the idea to organise dives, in which everyone willing to try the underwater adventure can take part. Something like dive intro is a proposal offered by almost every diving centre, but not everyone knows about it, and besides, we wanted to make at the same time an event, which has never been at the Polish sea. As I have also been working in Trzeba Marzyć Foundation for years, I decided to combine fun with helping others.

Why in Orłowo and not in Gdańsk or Gdynia?

In fact, in Gdynia… The choice of Orłowo was somewhat natural. Many people think that the Baltic is a cold, dark and uninteresting sea, than there is no sea here, and you dive in Egypt. The same people, when they see the pictures I took in the area of the so called “Orłowo Reef” could not believe that this is our Baltic Sea and it is only 100 metres from the shore of the beach we all know. The area around Orlovsk Cliff is also going to be Poland’s first underwater reserve and we are also promoting the beauty of this place, because we love it. It is also, together with the area of the pier in Orłowo, a very popular place among divers.

Who can dive and are there any restrictions e.g. age ?

Anyone who sends an application and declares willingness to go underwater under the supervision of an Instructor can dive. However, we have limited the age and set the minimum age at 15 years. Of course, people willing to dive cannot have any medical contraindications, but we do not have any additional requirements to those that apply to standard intro diving.

However, safety is our priority and the whole event will be supervised by, apart from professional instructors, Dive Masters and lifeguards from our 3City Diving group, as well as a WOPR lifeguard. There will also be an oxygen kit and an established evacuation plan in accordance with SWA methodology. This may seem like overkill to some more experienced people, especially as the place where we will be going under water is no more than 4 metres deep, but we are assuming that as well as having fun, we are also promoting safety on the water.

What is the Idea of the Event?

The motto of the event “Dive with your dreams” refers to two ideas – diving, because it’s our passion and we want to promote it among a wide group of people, and dreams, because the aim is to collect money to fulfill the dreams of seriously ill children, wards of the Trzeba Marzyć Foundation. Although this is not the action of one particular diving centre, we managed to invite to cooperation two great diving centres known in the Tricity – Ośmiornica diving school and Submarine diving centre. Also friends from the 3City Diving group, with whom we often dive together, will help us. In this way, we show that it is possible to combine a common passion, popularization of the sport of diving and helping seriously ill children.

Was it difficult to organise permits?

It is a bit of work, but I am lucky that I always meet good people. Also in offices. Of course, there are a lot of formalities on such occasions, but even though normally the beach in Gdynia Orłowo is not made available for events, I managed to convince the Gdynia Sports Centre that it is worth it, for which we are grateful. ZDiZ or the Maritime Office behaved in a similarly open manner. Such attitudes are encouraging and only give wings to action.

What is the purpose of the event, apart from promoting diving ?

Good fun! As the Trzeba Marzyć Foundation, we have been fulfilling the dreams of seriously ill children for almost 9 years, and have already managed to fulfil almost 550 of them. This requires effort and commitment on the part of the volunteers, but we also try to have fun while doing it. Events such as 3City Diving Day, is a great opportunity to actively spend time and have fun, and at the same time raise money for dreams. We invite all interested in diving to come and visit us. Not only those who will dive, but also their families and friends and people who just want to see how the diving equipment looks like, talk about diving or ask how to start adventure with this sport.
