There is quite an uproar in the diving corners of the internet today. All because of the official premiere of a new dive computer by Suunto. The EON Steel model is supposed to be an answer to what the competition has been doing in recent years and complement the wide range of measuring devices offered by the Finnish manufacturer. The latest model is focused on durability, flexibility and individual user needs.

The first glance gives us a pleasant impression. Large easy to read display, of course in colour as befits the current standards, set in a case of brushed steel, makes a very pleasant and solid impression. The whole is complemented by 3 buttons and a solid rubber strap or rubber bung, depending on our preferences.

Suunto CustomDisplay™ is designed to let us customize the EON Steel to suit our individual needs. For starters, you can decide whether you want to use a traditional text-based display or give the new graphical way of displaying data a try. What values are shown on the display is also up to you. With Suunto DM5 software, you can also create 5 screens where you can compose everything as you wish. The same application will also allow you to import data later, for archiving and further analysis.

The state-of-the-art BrightSee™ wide angle screen will ensure that the screen we build is clearly visible and crisp. Its brightness, high colour contrast and ease of use will ensure a clear and crisp readout, whatever the conditions we face underwater.

“We are very pleased to announce the launch of Suunto EON Steel, which is the result of our desire to produce the best possible dive computer for active divers. The customization possibilities and ease of use make it the ideal device for all conditions.”- Mika Holappa, Director of Diving Division at Suunto

What draws attention in comparison with other Suunto dive computers is the versatility enforced by competition and customer needs. No matter what level of your diving career you’re at, you can be sure that Suunto EON Steel will perform perfectly.

With user-upgradeable software and a free CCR rebreather upgrade scheduled for release in 2015, EON becomes a very interesting alternative that can accompany you on your dives for years to come. At this point, it is worth mentioning that the depth range for Suunto’s youngest child has been set at 150m.

As for the software and what’s inside the Steel, it should be mentioned that it’s based on Suunto’s advanced Fused™ RGBM algorithm. Combined with the new Suunto Tank POD, you get the ability to embrace all PODs with a single glance at your wrist.

EON Steel new Suunto dive computer As befits a modern measuring device, EON Steel is powered by a rechargeable battery, which on a single charge will allow, depending on the settings, for 20-30 hours of diving.
