Croatia is the youngest country of the European Union, enjoying extraordinary and deserved popularity among millions of tourists who visit the country every year. Croatia is also a great area for diving enthusiasts. Here everyone, both professional and experienced as well as novice divers, will find something for themselves.
Diving season in Croatia is relatively long and lasts from spring to late autumn. The Adriatic is simply a perfect place for diving – warm waters with high transparency (about 30-40 meters) make to Croatia come divers from all over Europe. Before arriving in the place it is of course worth taking care of some accommodation in advance. This can be done, for example, online, by edom.pl – especially if we are interested in renting even an entire house at an attractive price.
Diving rules in Croatia
Both snorkelling – i.e. diving with a snorkel and flippers – and diving with full equipment are popular in Croatia. In order to dive with full equipment, it is necessary to obtain a diving licence which is issued by the Croatian Diving Association. Such a permit can be purchased in authorised diving centres, upon presentation of an international diving certificate. In most places along the Croatian coast, this is sufficient. However, there are areas where it is necessary to have
There are also special permits. These include, for example, extremely attractive for divers national parks Kornati and Mljet. There are also places, where diving is completely forbidden – an example are national parks Krka and Brijuni. It is also forbidden to dive in marine reserves and other protected areas, in ports and on military installations.
All dives must be carried out under the supervision of a diving base operating in the area. Individual actions are possible only after paying for the appropriate permit. Generally, in Croatia you can dive to a depth of up to 40 m, and each dive site must be marked with a buoy.
The most attractive diving areas
Croatia will certainly not lack attractions and experiences for both beginners and experienced divers. Here you can penetrate shipwrecks, watch specimens of fauna and flora, explore underwater caves and underwater walls.
Those who have just started their diving adventure can successfully take part in a trip to the sunken ship “Peltastis”, the wreck of which lies only about 5 m from the island of Krk. The system of underwater caves in the bay of Siroka, the whole southwest coast of the island of Premuda, and the underwater cliff of the islet of Stambedar near the island of Hvar are also accessible for beginners.
Advanced divers will certainly appreciate the charms of shipwrecks such as “Baron Gautch” located near the town of Rovinj on the Istrian peninsula or “Taranto” located near Dubrovnik.
Diving around the Kornati National Park is extremely attractive. Extremely clear water, a very rich flora and fauna and shipwrecks that in the past tried to force their way through the narrow passages between the islands – all this makes it perhaps the most attractive place for amateur divers. However, the area is an area of great restriction in this respect. Diving is only permitted if accompanied by a natural or legal person with the park’s consent to carry out this activity. In addition, there are only 9 designated dive sites in the park. Please note that diving on your own or going under water outside the designated places may result in high financial penalties.
