At the CMAS European Cup 2020 held in the Greek town of Kalamata, a huge surprise was caused by French athlete Anaud Jerald, who descended to a depth of 112 metres and broke the world record just set by Alexei Molchanov in the CWTB competition – standing weight in fins.

The young Frenchman, just 24 years old, surprised everyone when, during a competition held in the waters of the Gulf of Messina off the Peloponnese Peninsula, he took home in fantastic style the world record to Russian Alexei MolchanovThe Frenchman’s record breaking performance in the 2020 Adriatic Freediving Trophy, which he set last weekend.

The opportunity to take on such a challenge does not come overnight. It is an experience marked by many setbacks. However, everything I have experienced along the way has taught me a lot about myself and my resilience. It has also undoubtedly allowed me to make progress. Thehappiness I feel today I share with my entire team who have been with me every day because without them none of this would have been possible,” said Jerald

The next starts involving both athletes promise to be really exciting. Young Jerald set his first world record in 2019, descending to a depth of 108 metres. However, a short time later Molchanov improved his result by becoming the new world record holder. Now the situation has reversed and to the Frenchman has jumped over his rival.

It seems that in the coming years we may witness a very exciting rivalry between these players and, in the long run, also a change of guard. The highly successful Russian is already 33 years old and there is no doubt that at some point someone will take his place. Perhaps it will be 24-year-old Arnaud Jerald?
