A native of the Italian peninsula, Zecchini conducted her attempt in a time of 4 minutes and 15 seconds, allowing her to set a new world record, in a competition held under the auspices of CMAS. In doing so, the Italian broke the record of 97m held by the tragically deceased Japanese Sayuri Kinoshita.
“I want to dedicate this record to Sayuri. She was an amazing person, a great soul and the strongest competitor when competing in the deep. I miss you very much and you are always in our hearts,” – An emotional Zecchini said.
The record was approved after anti-doping tests were carried out and all formalities were followed.
