According to the BBC, near Porto Novo, Madeira, Portuguese divers have found the wreckage of a Swiss plane that crashed in 1977.
Super Caravelle, was preparing for another landing approach, at Santa Cruz airport, when it crashed falling into the water.
Flight 730 left Zurich on 18 December 1977, with 52 passengers on board. After a stopover in Geneva, it continued its flight to Madeira, where it attempted to land at Santa Cruz Airport. Unfortunately, on its second approach it crashed into the sea. Of the 52 passengers who were on board, only 21 were rescued.
The results of the exploration carried out by divers are surprising. The wreckage of the plane is practically intact, they say, and the whole is in one piece, with wings, engines and other components. The only thing missing is the cockpit.
One Portuguese diver – Jose Marques said:
“What we found was practically a grave,” he says.
