Divers from all over the world have another place on the map to visit. It is, of course, the deepest pool in the world – Y-40 Deep Joy, located at the Terme Millepini hotel on the outskirts of Padua. If you have not yet considered such a trip, I am going to encourage you a little.

The completed structure, different from most swimming pools, was designed with the diving fraternity in mind from the very beginning. The chief architect is Emanuel Boaretto, who is also the manager of the hotel where Y-40 is located.

The main part of Y-40 measures 20x18m and the depth of this section is set at 10m. Reaching the bottom, we are really just beginning our tour. We continue down a shaft with a diameter of 6m, which takes us to a depth of 40m! This is 7m deeper than the previous record holder, the Belgian Nemo33 pool.

It is much easier to see the difference between these two facilities if we add that the swimming pool in Brussels fills 2400m³, while the one near Padua fills 4300m³! The facility is supplied with water from the local thermal baths, which means a temperature range of 32-34°C and no need to wear a wetsuit (not to mention a dryer).

After these few paragraphs, you can already conclude that this is a great place for freedivers, as well as those starting their diving adventure (OWD) or trying to go beyond the 20m limit (AOWD). But that’s not all! For divers taking more advanced dives and those who would like to feel the atmosphere of cave diving, the designers have provided a few surprises.

We are talking about 4 tunnels intended to serve as a cave simulator (at least that was my first impression). The whole is completed by areas intended for underwater photography training, where even sets for photo shoots have been prepared!

Looking at all the attractions that the Y-40 has on its menu, it is not difficult to assume that in this rather large and varied facility you can spend many hours training and playing before you feel the first signs of fatigue and long for open space.

What is more, our trip does not have to be a strictly diving trip. The wide offer of the hotel and the spa located next to it allows for a successful family trip during which no one should complain about boredom!
