Usually, diving with sharks provides unforgettable emotions and a huge dose of adrenaline. Regardless of whether you share a cage or not and what species of shark it is, the memories will stay with you for a long time. In accordance with the maxim “expect the unexpected”, such a situation as the one in the video attached to today’s text may also happen… which we do not wish for anyone, unless someone really wants to…

There were moments of horror for everyone present during this particular shark dive. Both the boat staff and the guests on board, not to mention the poor diver who had an unexpected guest in his cage.

While photographing great white sharks from behind the steel bars, an unexpected twist occurred and one of the sharks got into the cage where the diver was! Fortunately, no one was hurt and it only ended with a scare and a possible foam wash.

What may seem like an aggressive attack by a great white shark is perfectly natural behaviour in such a situation and has nothing to do with aggression. During such expeditions, sharks are fed with pieces of tuna tied to a line. When “attacking” such a piece of fish, the predator becomes temporarily blind to all stimuli. The shark cannot swim backwards either, also the situation in which it found itself forced it to join the diver in the cage.

Fortunately, the diver himself turned out to be a very experienced instructor who already had a lot of experience in diving with sharks. So he remained calm and waited in the lower part of the cage until the shark got out. Afterwards, slightly shaken but without the slightest damage to his health, he returned to the boat.

The immediate reaction of the boat crew deserves high praise, who, after the shark entered the cage, immediately opened its hatch, allowing the predator to leave after only a few seconds. The cage diving continued the next day and the whole event was treated as a unique situation that happens extremely rarely.

The footage was recorded in Mexico near Guadalupe Island in the Pacific Ocean.
