This spring in Warsaw, a sensationally prepared exhibition devoted to one of the most famous liners in the world – RMS “Titanic” – has moored. The organisers are thus creating a unique and unrepeatable opportunity for everyone to move aboard this legendary vessel and feel the atmosphere of its interiors at the beginning of the 20th century. This opportunity will last until 9 October. During this time, the exhibition is open to all visitors of the Palace of Culture and Science.
What exactly is ‘Titanic – The Exhibition’? This unique and one of the most popular mobile exhibitions in the world, consists of more than 200 exhibits from the wreck of the RMS “Titanic”, extremely accurate replicas of the interiors, creating, in combination with original objects, unusual compositions, thanks to which more than 1,000,000 visitors around the world have already travelled to the interior of this legendary vessel and made an unforgettable voyage into the past. Now everyone who decides to visit Warsaw before 9 October has the chance to join this group and commune with the legend of the British liner.
“Titanic” – the world’s largest luxury floating hotel, set off on its maiden voyage to New York on 10 April 1912. Four days later it sank after colliding with an iceberg. With 2,207 people on board at the time, only 712 were rescued, and the ship has since become a search object for countless explorers and amateurs. On 1 September 1985, a French-American expedition was the first to present a film of the sunken steamer. It was followed by another expedition prepared by RMS Titanic INC with the exclusive right to explore the wreck.
The exhibition in the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw (covering an area of 2000 m²) will feature over 200 exhibits. Children’s shoes, an original table service, a postcard written by a third class passenger about the luxury on board, private photos of travellers, a diary kept up to the day of the disaster – these are just some of the items that will be on display. Some of them were donated by the heirs of the survivors of the disaster – they were talismans kept for years “for luck”.
The exhibition takes you through the corridors and cabins of the Titanic, the passenger and crew rooms, the captain’s bridge and the radio room. During the tour we learn about the creators of the three sister liners (Olympic, Titanic and Gigantic), we observe the process of promoting the voyage and attracting passengers, and finally we follow the course of the fateful voyage.

From the vast collection of memorabilia belonging to Musealia Entertainment, the organisers of the exhibition have selected those whose history can be reconstructed in the smallest detail. Each of the exhibits presented at the exhibition (jewellery, everyday objects, letters, diaries, photographs, clothes) tells the story of a particular person. The fates of the ship’s passengers told by the creators of the exhibition, together with the presentation of the objects belonging to them, create a colourful, moving and poignant story. No wonder that this unusual exhibition has been so well received all over the world – it has been presented in Stockholm, Barcelona, Seville and Madrid, among others. The author of the concept is the famous Swedish mariner Claes G. Wetterholm – a participant in four expeditions to the wreck, for many years passionate about the history of the transatlantic ship.
The exhibition was prepared by Musealia Entertainment, which spreads knowledge about the famous ship and cherishes its memory. The ambassadors of the exhibition in Poland are: Tomasz Ossoliński known designer, creator of unique creations and fashion shows and Bożena Aksamit journalist of “Gazeta Wyborcza”, graduate of oceanography at the University of Gdańsk, author of the book about the Polish transatlantic ship Batory.
Place of exhibition: Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, 4th floor
Duration: 8 April – 9 October 2016.
