The thought of finding an American fighter jet had accompanied Peter Hunt for many years. The idea may not have been his obsession, but it was something the diver cared about deeply. It was undoubtedly influenced by the fact that Hunt served in the same squadron to which the missing machine belonged.

“The thought of searching for and finding this plane has always been a pastime for me and has been with me since it went missing,” – explains the interested party himself.

The whole story began on 6 November 1989 during a flying exercise and lasted almost 26 years. Fortunately, both pilots taking part in the training flight at the time were able to evacuate. The crew was quickly found by a rescue helicopter and no tragedy occurred.

The wreck of the A-6 Intruder remained missing until last week. It was then that Peter Hunt, together with divers from the Maritime Documentation Society, carried out a successful attempt to find the crashed machine.

There are plans to produce a book about the search for the military jet, which will be interspersed with Hunt’s personal experiences and his battle with Parkinson’s disease.

A year ago I was a completely different person,” says Hunt, showing a video of himself shaking and swaying uncontrollably. The treatment I had in Seatle and the search for the wreckage of the A-6 helped me, giving me the strength and motivation to fight,” describes a happy Peter Hunt.
