As of today, the organisation has been enlarged by two more member countries. China and Taiwan have joined, and after an open vote were granted observer member status.

By joining the AIDA, the two Asian countries will be able to participate in the organisation’s assemblies, but will not have voting rights. Accession, however, entitles them to organise AIDA ranking competitions and send their athletes to the freediving World Championships.

Looking at the momentum with which the Asians operate, both in organising sporting events and in training the next world record holders, we can expect a very interesting rivalry. I am sure many of you will be following it with bated breath.
