At 1.05pm, the other dive participants began searching for the missing two, and at the same time the police and fire brigade were also notified. The search ended with both accident victims found unconscious at the bottom of the lake in a place where it is only 6 metres deep.

After being brought ashore, rescuers immediately attempted resuscitation and the injured divers were then transported by rescue helicopters to hospitals in Berlin and Bernau. Unfortunately, despite all efforts and medical assistance given to them, both died.

According to local media reports, the victims are two diving instructors from Berlin a 49-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man. Their equipment was secured at the scene and their deaths are being investigated by the Barnim criminal police.
