Russian athletes Ekaterina Nekrasova and Maria Olshevskaya have set two Guinness records in freediving under ice.

The first weekend of March turned out to be extremely successful for the Russian freediving community. Female athletes from the country of our eastern neighbours set two Guinness records in competitions held under the ice.

First, on Saturday 6 March, Ekaterina Nekrasova performed magnificently when she attempted to set the longest distance covered under the ice without fins or a wetsuit, wearing only a swimming suit. Her result of 102.7 metres allowed her to beat the previous record of 85 metres, which… Niekrasova set in January 2021.

In turn, two days later, on Monday 8 March, Maria Olshevskaya made her attempt to set the world record in statics. The Russian stayed under water for 4 minutes and 17 seconds, which allowed her to achieve her goal. It is worth noting that this attempt was also carried out without the use of any wetsuit.

The Russian Freediving Federation profile reported that all the details of the two trials and a range of multimedia footage documenting the two immersions will soon be published.
