Remember when we wrote in the spring about the race to the deepest places in the world? We mentioned 3 camps and 3 boats that are preparing to conquer the deep. As it turns out, despite the rivalry, the members of the Triton 3000 and Virgin Oceanic trams have a very good relationship.

Richard Lundgren, who is well known to our readers and the participants of this year’s Baltictech 2011, was invited to test the boat, but one of the leaders of Virgin Oceanic, Chris Welsh, was also a guest of the Triron 3000 team.

“It’s a completely different type of boat to ours. It can be crewed by up to 3 people and its design is completely unique. In most boats the view is limited and not very wide, whereas here we have a full 360º! It’s amazing because you have to look around all the time so you don’t miss anything!” – reported Ch. Welsh

The underwater team was extremely colourful, including a builder of exclusive yachts, two Belgian diving enthusiasts, a Swedish wreck hunter, a former professional diver and a designer of aircraft, spacecraft and submarines.

Everyone has their own goals to achieve. Some want to go as deep as possible, others want to discover the mysteries of the sea. The Baltic Sea is just waiting for a skilled crew and the right equipment to unveil its secrets.

“Our efforts are focused around the same goal – 11km down. We share our technologies because although our main goal is the same, it’s for completely different reasons. For them the most important thing is what they see, they are looking for inspiration, we on the other hand want to explore. The press has christened our efforts as a race, while we support each other to reach our goal faster,” – Welsh continues.

As you can see, healthy competition contributes to the progress of both teams. Let’s hope that we won’t have to wait too long for the effects of this cooperation. Personally, since I first read about the whole thing, I can’t stop thinking about it. After all, if they succeed in their intentions, exploration of the deep will take off on an unprecedented scale, we’ll be able to explore every corner, until it’s hard to imagine what benefits this could bring!
