Unfortunately very sad news has reached us. Tom Mount – a legend of technical diving and founder of IANTD – has died at the age of 83.

Through its official profile, the IANTD organisation has announced that one of its founders Tom Mount has died.

Tom Mount was a legend and a pioneer of technical diving. Everyone who had the chance to meet him immediately noticed his charisma and the sparkle in his eye. A true old-school enthusiast, tough as steel and with no half measures. I met him when he was already 70, but I wish everyone, regardless of age, had the same energy and clear view of the world that I saw in him then.

In 1991 Tom joined Dick Rutkowski and his new organisation IAND, dedicated to teaching recreational diving using nitrox. Moments later IANTD was formed and the rest is history.

We had the pleasure of meeting Tom in Gdynia, during the Baltictech 2010 conference. He devoted some of his time to us, which resulted in an interesting conversation, the memento of which is short interview.
