Three men stole… a shark from an oceanarium! – video

An unusual event took place at the San Diego oceanarium. Three men took a baby shark straight from the tank, then hid the animal in a pram and hurried towards the exit, only to drive away in a car from under the oceanarium building.

The victim of the thieves was a barely 40-centimetre long juvenile horn shark(heterodontus francisci) named Miss Helenka. Surprisingly, the theft was not done to sell the animal on the black market, but out of a desire to have an unusual specimen in their collection.

The thieves were quickly and efficiently tracked down, thanks to the CCTV installed on the premises. The police, having the numbers from the offender’s licence plate, were immediately at the right address to recover the shark and apprehend the perpetrators.

Fortunately, it turned out that while on the subject of theft and kidnapping the men turned out to be total amateurs, they had a lot of knowledge about sharks. On the spot, they created excellent conditions for Miss Helen and the shark, despite the fears of the oceanarium staff, was in great condition.

In the flat where the shark was recovered, the men arrested had amassed an impressive collection of various specimens of marine fauna.

The perpetrators had been hanging around the pool for nearly an hour, waiting for a convenient moment to commit the theft. Two of the men admitted to committing the theft, the third denied having anything to do with it.
