They left us for their last dive…

The Solemnity of All Saints and the following All Souls’ Day is a very special time in our tradition. It is that moment in the year when everything slows down and we have a moment to look back into the past. To places and especially to people who are no longer with us. To reminisce about the time we spent together and the moments we experienced that built the bonds that unite us. Often so strong that even death is not able to cut them…

At this time, of course, we devote most of our attention to family and loved ones. However, we are very lucky that by entering this wonderful world hidden underwater, we have gained a second, big and wonderful family. Unfortunately, the beauty that draws us to the depths of the underwater world, often comes at a very high price. Diving, especially those exploratory, technical and highly advanced, is fraught with great risk. Every year we lose wonderful people, whom we came to know while taking part in our extraordinary adventure together.

This year is no different. Once again we have lost many extraordinary divers and at the same time wonderful people, with whom we not only enjoyed the silence under water, but also spent a lot of time talking between dives. Each of us has such characters in our lives. Mentors met on the path of diving career, colleagues, people meeting brought something to our life, after which it was not the same anymore.

November was always special for me in terms of diving. Especially the end of this month is the date when I could meet with many of those who are no longer among us in the Tri-City and spend many wonderful moments.

The natural cycle of life is to first get to know them and listen to what they have to say, to establish a thread of communication and always look forward to the possibility of another meeting and conversation. After all, in everyday life no one assumes or thinks about the fact that something can end suddenly, break off in an instant and remain just a memory. However, the more years pass, the more last conversations there are. This year at the end of November I will meet many of you again, unfortunately not all of you anymore….
