A group of explorers have located 7 shipwrecks off the coast of the US which they believe may contain gold coins and other valuables. The team are not newcomers and already have a great find to their credit from last year, when they recovered hundreds of gold and silver coins from the wreck of the steamer SS “Pulaski”.

Members of Blue Water Ventures International specialise in exploring the waters off the coast of North and South Carolina and it is there that they have made their next discovery. As they reported to the US media, they carried out extensive exploration work, expecting to locate as many as 12 wrecks that could potentially contain valuable cargo, including coins and other artefacts.

The search was conducted using various technologies including precision sonar. The explorers have their types as to the identification of the found vessels, but no information in this regard has been released.

Keith Webb, CEO of Blue Water Ventures International, has posted pictures online taken at some of the wrecks he has discovered, showing piles of wood, exposed beams, twisted pipes from steam engines and… resin. According to Webb, this can be used to accurately date individual finds.

Divers have taken research material from all seven wrecks to be able to find out when the different vessels were on the bottom. Once this is complete, further research into the historical data relating to some of the wrecks found will begin so that they can be better identified.

Work on the newly discovered sites is expected to continue later in the 2019 season. The company will also continue to search for and extract valuables from the wrecks of steamboats “Pulaski” and “North Carolina”. So far, hundreds of gold and silver coins have been excavated from the wreck of the “Pulaski”, and the first 502 pieces were sold this year for an undisclosed amount. However, it is known that the oldest coin was a British gold guinea from 1750.

Webb speculates that more than 100,000 gold and silver coins, and other valuables, are still waiting at the site of the “Pulaski” sinking.
