Theft of equipment under the Oliero cave in the Veneto region.
Listen to this article

On 26 August, while diving in the Veci and Siori caves, our car was broken into by breaking all the locks and our diving equipment, photographic equipment, documents and personal computers were stolen. The thieves had obviously been watching us and knew the conditions of the site well, because they dared to steal in a place where there were cameras and relative tourist traffic. Of course, the camera showing the car park turned out to be damaged.

I would like to add that everything stolen was placed in the boot of the bus, in an invisible place, and we drove to the car park with our equipment already packed in our rucksacks in such a way as not to show the contents of our boot at the car park.

Cave staff say that thefts here as under other caves are standard and it seems that thieves have a particular predilection among divers (no one returns from a cave dive suddenly and quickly).

On the one hand, I would like to warn everyone to be prepared for such unpleasant surprises if they choose to dive in Italian caves; on the other hand, I would like to appeal to cave divers from Italy to help us if possible by observing internet auctions and providing information about our lost items on the relevant Italian forum.

Of the distinctive things we have lost and have their factory numbers:

Canon 5D MKII, Canon 15mm, f 2.8 lens, Canon 17-40, f 4 MacBook Pro jacket SM Eques, LOLA heating battery LOLA heating waistcoat Apex DST SM automatics and many other valuable things like tool bag for HH and spare parts for HH, Ikelite case, Ikelite lamps, Sola lamp. If anyone has good contacts among Italian divers please pass this information to them.
