The wreckage of the plane, the discovery of which we informed at the beginning of Julywill be excavated already at the beginning of the coming autumn. All thanks to the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow. The institution has signalled its interest in the wreck from the very beginning, but now the plans have taken real shape.

The American bomber was part of the support for the Soviets under the Land-Lease programme during World War II. Today, there are only 12 of these machines in the world (only one in Europe!), which, after all, were produced in thousands. Therefore, the determination of the employees of the Krakow museum, who want to include the bomber in the index of their exhibits, should not come as a surprise.

“We are planning to excavate the wreck at the turn of September and October. We have to make it to the 15th of October, after that time the weather may not be in our favour,” says Krzysztof Radwan, the director of the Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków.

The whole situation probably does not please the diving community, which was hoping to make the wreck available to visitors, but without moving it from its present position. From a wreck diver’s perspective, the pity is double, as the Douglas rests at a depth of 15-17m, within recreational limits.
