People walking along the shore were surprised to see wooden remains sticking out of the water like the jaws of a prehistoric monster. What’s more, it turned out that the staff at the local museum in Braunton knew nothing about the wreckage lying there.

Cathy Hutson, who is holidaying in the area with friends, said she saw a strange shape during an outing where they were going to go boating.

“At first we thought it was a row of stones, but when we got closer, the beautiful shape of the ship appeared to our eyes. The whole thing looked like it had spent a lot of time in this place.”

The surprised tourists decided to ask the locals, but here they were surprised again. It turned out that nobody knew anything about any wreck.

“We asked several people we met about the history of this ship, unfortunately no one knew what we were talking about. It was the same at the nearby café we looked at.”

Roy Lucas who acts as director at the Braunton museum site also said he had never heard of the wreck at Putsborough before.

“If that’s true, it’s definitely a facility we’ll want to move to our musuem,” Lucas concluded briefly.
