We have arrived at interesting information that is expected to find its confirmation in facts tomorrow. An entry has been published on the fanpage “Kopalnia Podgórze”, which informs about the attempt to set a new Polish record in underground diving, which will be made by Michał Rachwalski on April 21, 2015. The whole thing will be broadcast by TVN24 television.

Content of the entry:

“A daredevil has been found (Michał Rachwalski) who will attempt to break the previous record for the deepest underground dive in Poland. At the same time, he will try to discover the entrance to another inactive level of the Podgórze mine at a depth of -150 metres.
The current Polish record is -132 metres. Live coverage of the dive in the Uranium Basin is tomorrow on TVN 24.”

The Podgórze mine mentioned above, which will be the arena for Michał Rachwalski’s struggle against the Polish record, is a very interesting place, of which still not many people have heard. It is only in recent years that successive expeditions into its depths have brought this location into the consciousness of some circles.

Why did this happen? Well, it was the raw material that was extracted from the mine for almost the entire decade of the 1950s. – uranium. At the time of the active exploitation of the deposits, the existence of the mine remained a strict secret. This was, of course, due to the subordination of our country to the Soviet Union.

Today the mine is a tourist attraction and an interesting place to visit not only for divers. Visitors to the site can tour the prepared area of the mine as well as the inhalatorium which operated here in the years 1974-89. However, the most interesting part of the programme seems to be visiting the R-1 Industrial Plant and learning the secrets behind the contract to sell uranium to the USSR.
