The beautiful lake Kaindy in Kazakhstan – video

There are places that do not require any commentary or recommendation to want to visit them. They simply amaze with their beauty and uniqueness and do not let us forget about them. From time to time, we present on our pages the most interesting locations worth visiting. In the past we have already written about many beautiful and unusual lakes around the world and today we have another gem, which will make every diver’s heart beat faster – Kaindy Lake in Kazakhstan.

The basin was created after an earthquake that occurred in the early 20th century. (1910/1911 – accounts do not agree). As a result of a huge landslide, which was triggered by the cataclysm, the Schrenka valley covered by birches and spruces was flooded with water. Hence the name – Kaindy, which in the local language means “surrounded by birches”.

The lake is about 400 metres long, and the greatest depth we can reach is 30 metres. The water sparkles with wonderful shades of green and blue, giving the place a unique charm. As befits a mountain lake, temperatures are very low. However, this does not deter divers or bathing enthusiasts. A characteristic element of Kaindy Lake are stumps of flooded trees, standing above its surface like broken masts of sunken ships.

This beautiful place is located approx. 280 km from the biggest Kazakh city – Alma Ata. Getting to its shore is not a big problem, however, you will need 5-6 hours to cover this distance. After leaving the highway, you will have to cross along the Khilik River and the Kaindy Gorge. Of course, at some point traditional transport will prove useless. Only powerful off-road vehicles will cope with the local wilderness. Otherwise, we will have to use traditional and reliable pack animals. In the nearby village we will certainly be able to count on help in this matter.

Unfortunately, a lake that was suddenly created by unforeseen circumstances can also disappear in the same way. The natural dams created during the landslide, subjected to the test of time and erosion, may not withstand the pressure of the water for long. When this happens, Kaindy Lake will cease to exist and only films, photographs and memories will remain, in the minds of those who have managed to visit this wonderful place.
