A shipwrecked man was found on the small Ebon Atoll near the Marshall Islands. A story like many, if it were not for certain details which made the story of the man who survived truly extraordinary.

“The man was rescued by two Marshall Islands residents. They noticed a boat that had been thrown onto the reef. It had an engine but it was devoid of a propeller. When he was found, he was dressed only in ragged underpants. He had a long beard and hair. He was weakened. Now he is said to be feeling better” – writes The Independent

A survivor found on Ebon Atoll by two Marshall Islanders claims to be from Mexico. He arrived in Ebon after… a year and a half of drifting and sailing 12,500km! The exhausted and emaciated man told how he ate turtles and drank their blood to survive when it didn’t rain for a long time.

Unfortunately, not everything could be learned from the lucky survivor, as he only spoke Spanish. He introduced himself as Jose Ivan. According to his story, he and his friends set off from Mexico to El Salvador in 2012, but unfortunately they died during the journey.

Jose told us that he survived by catching birds, turtles and fish with his bare hands. A turtle was indeed found in his boat, which seems to confirm this part of his story. The lucky survivor is now awaiting transport to the Marshall Islands’ capital, Majuro.
