As radioszczecin.pl reports, the tugboat, whose sinking we reported last week, will be retrieved from the water next month. In about two weeks, clean-up work is to begin, during which it will be removed from the bottom of the Świnoujście harbour channel.
The shipowner, Zakład Usług Żeglugowych, is currently in the process of selecting the best offer for the hire of a crane to carry out the excavation.
At the moment, navigation on the harbour channel is only problematic for large vessels, which move in shuttles. The movement of smaller vessels is fortunately proceeding without any disruption.
“The wreck will probably be raised in early March. At the moment it is marked with a special wreck buoy, and ships are informed by a navigation warning,” explains Ewa Wieczorek, spokeswoman for the UM
However, the matter of fuel that is leaking from the sunken tugboat is not good enough. The whole situation is being brought under control by rescuers from the Maritime Search and Rescue Service – SAR, who are trying to stop the leak.
