Greek freediver Stavros Kastrinakis with a score of 146 metres set a new world record in the VWT (Variable Weight) competition. The Greek made his attempt last Sunday, November 1, 2015, near the town of Kalamata, very popular among freedivers.

Scheduled for the early hours of the morning, the rehearsal lasted 3:33 minutes. Everything went quickly and without any problems. The freshly crowned record-holder was bursting with enthusiasm, and all the formalities connected with the record attempt were completed quickly and without reservation.

The last formality standing for the result to be recognised as an official world record is the anti-doping test.

With his underwater descent, Kastrinakis improved by 1 metre the result achieved by Canadian freediver William Winram, who descended to a depth of 145 metres in September 2013 in the waters surrounding the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

There was also a Polish accent during the record breaking. Among the two AIDA judges, apart from the British David Tranfild, there was also our compatriot Radek Gaca.
