Silver Mountain Caveman Rally 2018

On 23-25 February an event unique in Poland is taking place – a cave divers’ rally in Srebrna Góra. Why unique? We do not have many caves available for diving in Poland. In addition, they are usually located in very inaccessible places. Therefore, cave divers in Poland, looking for overhead space, often choose much more difficult environments than caves – mines, adits, flooded forts or bunkers.

In order to dive in such places, it is necessary to undergo specialised training and to have the appropriate equipment. Therefore, the rally is a closed event with a detailed diving plan. One dive site is only available to one experienced diving team at a time.

Why Srebrna Góra? The Srebrna Góra Stronghold was built in the 18th century. The fortification was to militarily secure Silesia, captured by Prussia in 1740. Two hills towering over the Srebrna Pass (586 m above sea level) were selected for the construction of the facility: Forteczna (Warowna) Góra (686 m) and Ostróg (627 m).

The Fortress consists of six forts. The location of the Fortress and many years of not draining its underground makes it possible to find many “entrances”. There are also some very unique flooded formations around the Fortress.

To the average diver, names such as Silberloch, Dzikowiec, Marie Agnes, Augusta, Wapiennik, Brewery, Deeper Well or Shallower Well will say nothing, but to the divers present at the rally they mean trudging through the forest, French cave school configurations, narrow and difficult entrances, and finally the rewards of great visibility and the opportunity to be in places where life was vibrant decades ago.

The Cave Divers Rally is accompanied by a series of lectures and a screening of cave films.
