During hydrographic surveys carried out by the Maritime Office in Gdynia, the wreck of a vessel was found, whose age was initially determined at the end of the 14th century. Archaeologists dealing with the find have relatively little information about it, as only part of the hull protrudes from the bottom.

The initial “hot” forecasts are very optimistic and it is very possible that we are dealing with an extremely interesting find, which may soon turn out to be a pearl in the crown of wrecks resting on the bottom of the Gulf of Gdańsk.

It is too early to talk about plans to recover the vessel, but nothing is out of the question; scientists must first carry out a series of studies and obtain as much information about the vessel as possible, including its technical condition and the extent of damage, its name, the route it took and the cargo it carried. All this data will have a significant impact on her future fate.

As the Gdynia Maritime Museum employees assure us, this is one of the many surprises hidden in the Baltic Sea. The Polish Maritime Museum plans to explore four more locations out of the several hundred known to its employees. The research is to be completed by the end of June and then we will know more details about the mentioned wrecks.
