It has begun… today I start to learn the procedures and systems of the world’s top professional divers. Plan for today: hot water suit, open diving bell and fitting for a deep dive. Maximum depth 15m. Are you ready to dive?

The day starts with an equipment check and checklist. We learn about the construction of the bell and check its operation. The diving bell is a system used to lower the diver and provide support. Then we put on wetsuits heated with warm water and we enter, or rather are lowered into the water.

The air cushion ensures our safety and the warm water heated suits provide incredible comfort. An additional advantage of hot water suits is that we do not need any ballast.

We dive in 5 degree water and feel temperatures in the region of 30 degrees. The feeling is incredible. We get out of the bell, take a little walk and get acquainted with the local flora and fauna. Visibility is pretty good around 10m and there are plenty of starfish, giant horned snails and other cold-loving oddities.

Back we go… rinse the bell with fresh air, take off the bendmasks and up we go. Today, briefly the Norwegian instructors got to see what we are made of and how we work as a group.

Everything seems to indicate that the supervisors are happy because after a lunch dripping in fresh prawns we get permission to dive again. The second dive is to operate and descend from the basket. We learn the whole system of work and security. The team is well coordinated and all tasks are carried out quickly and efficiently.

We came here to learn and increase our qualifications. However, no one expected that we would learn the ways of working of the best. I wonder what other surprises Nyd Norway and the cold waters of Oslofjord have in store for us.
