During the search for the missing Malaysian Boeing 777 – MH 370, a group of searchers came across a very interesting wreck from the 19th century. The vessel was found by the crew of the search vessel “Havila Harmony”, combing the southern waters of the Indian Ocean. The size of the found object in the first moment even suggested that they had found the wanted aircraft, but further examination brought a surprising result.

The wreck, measuring 80 metres, is already the second to be found during the last seven months of searching for the missing Malaysian machine. According to available information, the wreck is almost intact and has been lying on the seabed for about 200 years.

“On 19 December 2015, we received an image on sonar suggesting that we were dealing with a large man-made object. Unfortunately at that time we did not know what exactly we had found. On January 2, 2016, we conducted another survey using an AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vessel) robot, which allowed us to obtain images at a much better resolution, confirming that this is the wreck of a vessel,” the official statement said.

The research material obtained was sent to the Shipwreck Galleries of the Western Australian Museum, from where the reply came that it was most probably the wreck of a steel/iron sailing ship, dating from the 19th century. Unfortunately the material collected did not allow the wreck to be identified.

The search for the missing Boeing with the side number MH 370, is expected to end in July 2016. All due to the lack of new traces and indications to continue the search. The plane went missing on 8 March 2014 with 239 people on board, during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
