Tonight in the USA the premiere of the first episode of the documentary series “Catching Hell” took place. The programme’s creators accompany with their camera a group of underwater hunters from Florida who earn their living hunting for fish. However, those who think that this is a fairy tale job, where most of the day is spent on the sunny beaches of Key West or Key Largo, diving into the blue waters of the ocean to kill time, are mistaken.

The whole series consists of 10 episodes. The authors accompany the crews of 3 boats engaged in this unusual and risky craft. Now viewers around the world will also be able to see all the hardships and details of the work of a professional hunter up close.

Storms, shipwrecks scattered all along the coast, reefs hidden just below the surface and the predators of the Gulf of Mexico all make up a typical day at work for the people who supply restaurant tables with the most expensive and magnificent species of fish.

Underwater hunters make no secret of their motivation. The desire to hunt the biggest and most impressive specimen possible and a pay cheque are the motivations that push people to the edge of risk. Running out of air, depth or the risk of decompression sickness is not a problem… at least not when a unique target is in sight.

All episodes were filmed this past autumn in the Hudson area on Florida’s west coast. However, it was not uncommon for the boats carrying the hunters to venture out for several days, venturing as far as 100mil offshore.

As the programme’s creators assure us, their work depicts one of the world’s most dangerous professions, where risk and stress are the order of the day, and every dive could be the last.
