"'Passions of life - we breathe underwater' - a book about HSA divers

You can always count on divers. Both when you need help under and above the water. That’s why, when I saw on the Step by Step HSA profile information about a donation which is to enable publishing a book about diving for people with disabilities, I did not hesitate to pass this information on. I just know that I can count on many of you and together we will make this project a reality.

Probably, the vast majority of people reading these words are keen divers, in love with the underwater world. People, who after crossing the mirror (water) found themselves in a magical world, full of wonders, miracles and allowing us to get away from our everyday struggles. You all understand and feel on your own skin how wonderful diving is.

In my mind, diving for people with disabilities is a bit like the plot of the film Avatar by James Cameron (an avid deep-sea explorer by the way). The main character is a disabled person, with his everyday physical limitations in mobility. Suddenly, he finds himself in a world where his limitations no longer exist and he can once again enjoy freedom of movement.

I do not know what it is like. I don’t know any disabled divers, but that’s how I imagine it to be. Do you? Or don’t you? Maybe this is the book to change that and not only see the world on both sides of the sheet from a disabled person’s perspective, but also discover another side of diving? It can’t hurt to try…
