In a bid to reinforce its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, PADI has issued its declaration in reference to Mission 2020, a collection of declarations from various organisations and companies operating in the diving world that seek to change their business practices to help protect and preserve the seas and oceans for future generations.

Mission 2020 originally appeared as a statement from Fourth Element, announcing the company’s intention to eliminate all single-use plastic by 2020 and to develop new technologies to create products using recycled materials wherever possible.

[blockquote style=”2″]”As PADI moves towards a fully integrated digital learning system, we are reducing our reliance on packaging, thereby minimising the plastic footprint left by hundreds of thousands of divers each year. We will further reduce our use of plastic, throughout our supply chain to the 6600 dive centres and resorts affiliated with PADI, so as to reduce the use of single-use packaging.” – said Drew Richardson, CEO of PADI.[/blockquote]

The main goal of Mission 2020, is to eliminate single-use plastics from the diving industry.
