On Wednesday, January 18, 2012 a meeting for PADI EMEA course directors took place in Bristol. It was one of a series of 9 meetings, which have been planned for the period of 12 January – 26 March. After Paris and Bristol, the next host cities for PADI EMEA staff will be: Dusseldorf, Gothenburg, Utrecht, Sharm el Sheikh, Milan, Madrid and Hettlingen.
During the PADI mitzvahs, the gathering will focus on issues such as:
– new and revised programmes and products as well as a review of related standards and curriculum changes
– How to get new qualifications: Recreational Rebreather and Tec Rebreather Instructor Trainer
– clarification of development criteria, knowledge required for instructor exams and director courses
One of the participants of the “update” in England, was very well known to all Michał Kosut – an experienced instructor, from the Witek Smiłowski Diving Instructor School, long-time PADI Course Director and Regional Training Coordinator & Instructor Trainer Certifier DAN Europe. Late in the evening, already after the meeting, he shared via one of the social networks some interesting statistics that were presented at the meeting.
As it turns out, the countries that lead in 2011 in issuing PADI certificates are: 1 – USA, 2 – Thailand and 3 – Egypt. Last year was also very special for this organisation, because 20 million certificates issued!
According to the statistics quoted, PADI instructors conducted 73 million training dives last year and 51% of PADI centres saw an increase in training and certification.
The most interested in diving is the age group between 20-29 years old. Also this group contains the largest percentage of women – 34%, who, according to the calculations of PADI statisticians, much less frequently continue their diving education.
The average age of professional PADI members is 30 years, but the extremes of this group, range from 18-77 years!
Below are detailed statistics on PADI professional divers:
PADI Divemaster, average age 30 years, 22% women and 78% men
PADI OWSI, 24% women and 76% men
PADI CD, average age 38 years, 21% women and 79% men
