The patrol boat was donated to the Government of Grenada by the USA in 1984 and entered service with the Royal Grenada Police Force. After her termination she waited inoperative for several years until members of the Grenada Scuba Diving Association took an interest in her.
“It takes a village” is an understatement … we are excited to share that we have a new wreck dive for beginner and specialty divers! The ‘Tyrrel Bay’ is now resting in our Grand Anse Marine Protected Areas off of Boss Reef. Giving Veronica L some beginner diver company & ready for some #Freediver magic
Huge thanks to so many for help along the way but first and foremost the key sponsor @gopuregrenada the Grenada Hotel & Tourism Association for leading the way with private partnership commitment, of course the grenadatourism Discover Grenada, the Grenada Coast Guard, the Grenada Port Authority, Underwater Solutions, Grenada & Carriacou Diving, Clarkes Court Boatyard & Marina and the list goes on ….
Mother Nature showed her colours pushing Tyrrel where she wanted and ended up giving her some extra character. Grenada’s cleanest shipwreck of least impact is a HUGE accomplishment for our sustainable development and investment in an environmentally conscious future. Paying it forward our sponsors helped us prevent chemical impacts in our reefs for generations to come. THANK YOU!
Stay tuned for updates, images and some surprises

The authorities were then approached about the possibility of handing over the vessel in order to sink it and create an artificial reef, as well as a new tourist attraction in the region. The process started in 2016 allowed the unit to be prepared for sinking and, once all the formalities were taken care of, all that remained was to place it on the bottom.
[blockquote style=”2″]”We are delighted that Tyrrel Bay will become the new home for a range of marine life. We are confident that visiting tourists will find this new dive site fascinating and worthwhile,” said the official announcement.[/blockquote]
The sinking of ‘Tyrrel Bay’ increases the number of wreck dive sites offered by Pure Grenada to 15.
