Italy’s top freediver, Alessia Zecchini, broke her own world record in the CWT constant weight competition at the beginning of May. The talented athlete from the Apennine Peninsula has thus added another great success to her impressive CV.

[Blockquote style=”2″]”I was extremely focused right from the start, because during the 103m dive, some concentration had escaped me, so I knew I couldn’t make a similar mistake now. It worked, I stayed focused the whole time, closing my eyes at times to avoid mistakes during the pressure equalization. Everything went perfectly.” – said Zecchini afterwards[/blockquote].

Although the new record is “only” 1 metre better than the previous one, 105 metres on apnea must be impressive and awe-inspiring. Zecchini also has every predisposition to continue his great career in the coming years, adding more medals and records to his record.

Interestingly, Alessia Zecchini has announced that she does not intend to make any further attempts at the CWT competition record, as long as someone does not beat her score and force her to reclaim the world record.

Alessia Zecchini is a 25-year-old freediver born in Rome. She became known to the wider public in 2013, at the World Swimming Pool Championships in Kazan, where she won three medals, in three different competitions – bronze in Dynamics in Monoplane, silver in Dynamics without fins and gold in Statics.

Since then she has permanently taken her place in the world top, becoming a medallist (10x gold, 6x silver 1x bronze) of the most important events in the freediving calendar and the holder of numerous world records.
