The Marine-i programme for promoting innovative solutions in marine technology, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, has awarded a grant to ARC-Marine, a company that creates artificial reefs.

ARC-Marine engineers have developed a pioneering way to build artificial reefs called ‘Reef Cubes’. The modular system consists of a series of interlocking cubes that can be used to repair and rebuild damaged reef systems.

[blockquote style=”2″]”Much of the world’s fisheries at present are characterised by overexploitation. If the current situation does not improve, there is a real danger that the abundance of all the species of marine creatures we currently rely on could decline significantly over the next 30 years. Our reefs can provide protection for many of these precious species,” – said Tom Birbeck, ARC-Marine Director [/blockquote].

With help and support from Marine-i, ARC-Marine hopes to become industry leaders in marine engineering and environmental projects operating in Cornwall. In addition to the financial support, the relatively young company has also received a background of information from Marine-i’s experts and their colleagues. According to ARC-Marine representatives, for a young company such a background is simply invaluable.
