Recently we have been experiencing a period of setting new records. For today we have for you a feat that was undertaken by a US citizen – Christi Quill. At the beginning of February 2016, she set a new Guinness record for the longest dive in sea water in the category of women! The record attempt of 51 h and 25 min was conducted off the coast of San Diego, California. This means that the previous result was improved by more than 1 hour!

Credit must also be given to Christi’s incredible motivation that pushed her to make this gruelling attempt. A year earlier, the American had lost her mother, who died of breast cancer. As well as being a success, the attempt to set a new Guinness World Record helped raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

“I decided that as a diver I should do what I do best . So I decided to use the Guinness World Record attempt to launch a campaign to raise funds for the fight against cancer. I was very excited to take on this challenge and it was for very good reasons. Thank you for giving me this amazing and wonderful experience,” said the newly crowned record holder afterwards.

However, Christi would not have had the chance to see her dream come true if it were not for the staff of people supporting her.

“I was supported by a team of over 30 people and safety divers who performed under the name Team Amazing for the occasion. They were the ones who supported me with equipment and provided me with food and water to bring this attempt to a happy finish,” – A happy Quill added.

The dive was at a shallow depth with an average of 7 metres and a minimum of 5 metres.
