Nemo33 – the deepest swimming pool in the world

Not far from the Belgian capital – Brussels, there is the village of Uccle, which has appeared on the diving map of the world as a place with the deepest pool for divers. Since it was commissioned in 2004, diving enthusiasts have been coming here from all corners of Europe to see for themselves what this water complex has to offer.

The pool itself is full of different structures and corners. There are training platforms at various depths, a couple of caves that can be as long as 10 metres and two flat areas near the bottom at 5 metres and 10 metres. There is also a cylindrical drop to the very bottom of the pool, located at a depth of 33 metres.

The whole thing was designed by Belgian professional diver John Beernaerts as a training, recreational and filming environment. It took 2.5 million litres of non-chlorinated, pristine water at 30ºC to fill the huge structure with water.

Huge equipment facilities are available on site, as you cannot dive with your own equipment at NEMO33. The only exceptions are a mask and an automaton.

In order to take advantage of the charm and possibilities of this extraordinary place, we will have to pay a fee of € 22. The rental of some items, such as a camera, is charged extra.

A series of openings and windows have been designed throughout the structure, allowing people outside to see what is happening underwater. This makes a particularly interesting impression when visiting a bar or the local Thai restaurant.
