This summer, Dr. Robert Ballard, Dr. Katherine Croff Bell and their research team have embarked on an exciting adventure. It is a research project conducted from aboard the E/V Nautilius boat to study the history and further our knowledge of the oceans.

The expedition started in July 2011 in the waters of the Black Sea. The next waters on the route will be: Aegean Sea, Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic. It will end in November off the coast of Israel.

In this exciting project, scientists will map the ocean floor, investigate underwater volcanoes, search for new animal species, wrecks and much more.

Thanks to a satellite relay on board the vessel, the video feed and other data can be received around the world for 24 hours. As a result, research teams working on land will be able to participate in the research.

The most unique thing about this project is that we can all follow the expedition online! Thanks to the technology mentioned above, everyone will be able to hear what the research team is talking about and see what the video cameras are looking at.

To connect to the deck of the E/V Nautilius, simply go to the expedition website and wait patiently for the image and sound to load. You never know when something sensational will fall into the scientists’ field of vision, so it’s worth following the activities of the project participants closely.
