A meeting with one of the UK’s most experienced divers, Martin Robson, will be held at Santi’s new headquarters on 16 March at 6pm. The title of the meeting is “When things go wrong – how to avoid mistakes for the future, when organising serious expeditions?”
Martin took part as a ‘push diver’ in an expedition carried out in January 2012 in the Russian Federation. The aim of the expedition was to explore the bottom of the lake, which is 264m deep, and to find the entrance to a cave that scientists said should be there.
The whole project was supported by many institutions and the Russian media took a great interest in the matter. All this commotion did not help the divers. Unfortunately, during the descent, an accident occurred and a Russian diver died. However, the tragic event did not stop the search. The pressure exerted by the media was enormous. Martin Robson, a few days after the death of his colleague, decided to dive to over 200m.
Unfortunately, on his return to the surface, he began to feel ill. At this point another drama begins. It turns out that the decompression chamber, prepared for the members of the expedition, is not suitable for use in this kind of accident. What is worse, the facility with a proper chamber is… two days away by car!
Martin was very lucky. Today, two months after the incident, he is getting better. During his talk, we will be able to find out how things developed…
You are cordially invited to the lecture hall located at Santi Diving headquarters at Tadeusza Wendy 7-9 in Gdynia.
