Mares Horizon SCR Rebreather – New!
Listen to this article

During the 50th edition of the biggest European diving show Boot in Düsseldorf, a brand new rebreather Mares Horizon was presented. Interestingly, the unit was designed and built by engineers of a well-known Belgian manufacturer – rEvo.

In connection with the anniversary edition of the fair, we could expect that many manufacturers will prepare something special. However, we must admit that the new Mares/rEvo rebreather model is a big surprise. The newest unit is a rebreather of SCR type, or more precisely hSCR. All because it is equipped with both a constant flow nozzle and a solenoid. Thanks to this, the unit, upon detecting a lower oxygen value than the set one, will automatically add nitrox mixture to the circulation.

The rEvo engineers have already shown more than once that they can surprise in terms of innovation. The latest model will not have any cylinders permanently connected. The device is completely enclosed and its weight is only 12 kg! Like every other rebounder from the Belgian manufacturer, this one is also equipped with two scrubbers.

At this point, it is worth noting that Italian designers worked on the appearance of the youngest Reb in the rEvo family, and it shows. Stylistically, the whole thing is extremely refined.

As for the technical aspects, we connect the gas needed during the dive by using an external stage cylinder, using a connector developed by Mares (something like the QC6 quick connector).

The new hSCR rebreather, is designed for the recreational and technical market, but with a limited depth limit of 40 metres. It will be sold under the Mares brand.

Initially, training for this unit will only take place within the SSI organisation. In Poland, Przemysław Kacprzak will be the person conducting training at diver and instructor level.
