On the homepage of the producer of popular and characteristic rebreathers rEvo we can find information that there has been a very serious change in the company. Wanting to take care of the future of the devices created by him and develop them in the assumed directions, the creator of rEvo – Paul Raymaekers decided to sell the brand to a recognised brand on the recreational market – Mares.
In the official announcement from the creator of rEvo we can read:
“After more than 10 years of creating, developing and popularizing rEvo, knowing that none of my children will be willing or able to take over the family business, I realized some time ago that the only way to survive, further develop and strengthen rEvo is to find a partner with similar interests. A strong partner who is already operating in the diving market and will have the potential, possibilities and will to continue the work once started.
Months spent talking and negotiating so that we could eventually develop a synergy between us. Fortunately, at some point it became clear that we had found our ‘modus vivendi’.
As a result, we signed the relevant documents last week and rEvo has changed ownership. Revo BVBA has been 100% acquired by Maresa – one of the leading brands in the global recreational diving market.”
In the following paragraphs we can also find information about rEvo’s plans for the near and somewhat distant future…
“As you know for many years rebreathers have been a niche in the diving industry and have only been within the sphere of interest of the technical diving market. The goal of rEvo and Mares joining forces is to create greater and easier access to rebreathers, while maintaining the quality and performance of the equipment.”
We should not expect a big revolution at first. rEvo will continue on its development path, while Mares is expected to provide support with its extensive facilities and enormous capabilities.
This year Mares has released a line of ‘Extended Range’ products, dedicated to recreational divers who want to take the next step in their development to be able to dive deeper and longer. In turn, Mares’ affiliate SSI has developed a brand new technical training programme for open circuit divers to allow further development for those who feel limited by recreational limits.
Adding 2+2, we can expect a similar new closed loop programme to be developed in the near future, and rEvo will have no small part to play in this.
