Diving market, in addition to a huge amount of different equipment, offers us a myriad of all kinds of gadgets. This has its good and bad sides, because as a rookie, we get dizzy trying to find the only right way, to finally, with gaining experience say that the best solutions are those that suit us best, are comfortable, reliable and safe. And speaking of comfort and reliability, it is worth to mention fin springs.

Standard in recreational strap fins, the solution which secures the fin from falling off, is a rubber strap ended on both sides with plastic buckles. There are many types of these buckles, some more comfortable to use, others less so. And this is actually the only difference between them – convenience in opening and fastening. While in the shop, on the pier or on the boat it is not too difficult to open and close them, even if you have a thick glove on your hand, in the water it is always problematic.

Rubber strap, regardless of its durability, sooner or later will break and it will happen probably in the least expected moment, ruining our diving plans. No matter how cool our buckle is or how many gadgets it is stuffed with, it will not protect us against strap breakage. We can (and even should) have a spare element, “just in case”, but it is not always so.

This is where fin springs come to our rescue. Until recently known only from the equipment of technical divers, who cannot afford the slightest mistake, and every solution used by them should be simple and solid, because such are the least unreliable.

For some time now, springs have been available on the market to fit all types of recreational fins. This is good news for divers. Why? Well, because having a pair of fins equipped with the above mentioned, we basically increase the comfort of getting the fin on and off, no matter how thick our gloves are. With 2 fingers we are able to pull the spring off the heel and calmly free our leg from the fins. Another plus is that they auto-fit to our foot. As an elastic element, the fin springs stretch and shrink exactly as much as needed, which definitely increases the comfort of their use. As equipment made of metal, they are also extremely durable, which allows you to enjoy them for years of intensive diving.

The important things we should pay attention to when buying them is their length (they come in several sizes, depending on the length of the foot), whether the mount will fit our fin and whether there is a line inside the spring that will prevent excessive stretching and deformation. This is a solution for all those who value comfort, reliability and durability.
