To celebrate the 140th anniversary of the birth of Polish composer Feliks Nowowiejski, the opera “Legend of the Baltic” will return to the stage of the Grand Theatre in Poznan in an unusual edition nearly 100 years after its world premiere.

The opera in 3 acts directed by Robert Bondara, a coryphée and choreographer of the Polish National Ballet, will have a diving element, or more precisely, a freediving element. In the second act the main character dives into the underwater world and there…

The theatre has not yet revealed any details, but we will let you in on the secret. The scenes of the fisherman’s underwater adventures – under water on one breath – were performed by two Polish freedivers – Ireneusz Wojaczek and Agnieszka Kalska.

Previously realised shots will be presented on screen, while the entire opera will be sung live. The premiere of “Legends of the Baltic” will take place already in a week’s time on Friday, 8 December at the Grand Theatre in Poznań. The whole opera will be performed again only twice on 10 and 12 December.

For those who didn’t get tickets early, we have great news – the opera will be available to listen to and watch on the Opera Vision portal from the 10th of December 2017.

Here you will find an interview with the director and choreographer, who admits that he tried freediving himself, which encouraged him to get freedivers involved.
