Krzysztof Starnawski breaks his own record in Matka Vrelo – video

During the exploration of the Macedonian cave Matka Vrelo, Krzysztof Starnawski descended to the depth of 240 metres. Thus, he beat his own record set during the previous dive in this place and reached a previously unexplored part of the cave.

A dive carried out on 18 August explored a further 150 metres of the corridor and provided very interesting perspectives in terms of future dives and further exploration of Matka Vrelo.

[blockquote style=”2″]”After four days we managed to reach a depth of 240m and reach the edge of the new well. This was difficult as there was a considerable length of horizontal meander between 230m and 240m. This is the first project in my life where I have to navigate on a scooter without changing depth at such a significant depth. The scooter really plays a significant role in such an operation. Without it, or worse with its failure, such an adventure can end up with a few extra hours on the deco or even several hours of decompression. On this trip my scooter was barely breathing, even after replacing most of the parts I could feel cold sweat on the back of my neck hearing my little thing whine. That is why we are finishing this year, so as not to tempt fate, and next year I hope that someone from the manufacturers will come out to support our project ;)” – wrote Starnawski on his Facebook[/blockquote].

Despite many expeditions carried out in recent years by local and foreign divers, the Matka Vrelo cave still remains unexplored. Successive expeditions keep pushing the boundaries and allow us to get to know an ever more accurate picture of this place. Nevertheless, there is definitely still a lot ahead of us and in the years to come we will be able to get excited about more dives in the Macedonian cave.
